The America The Beautiful Series is a promise: “We Mutually Pledge To Each Other Our Lives, Our Fortunes, And Our Sacred Honor"

This series started when I saw “Hamilton" in the Fall of 2016. It was such a truly magical celebration of the hope and the possibility that is The United States of America. I have always loved my county and in November with the presidential election I felt that unity, decorum and democracy were under threat.

So I did what I do: I painted. I painted with red and blue on white paper all Winter 2017 and I was struck by the power and the iconic nature of the colors. Red as in blood of patriots, blue as in ink of the written rule of law. I kept thinking about the American Revolution and all the sacrifices so many generations have made for my freedom to remain.

There was no way to separate red and blue in the paintings. They were bound together. The idea of Red and Blue states is folly because we stand or fall as a Nation as one.
